The candidate I chose was Chris Christie the governor of New Jersey and one of the many republican presidential candidates. Governor Christie was elected the governor of New Jersey in 2010 and he was elected to a second term in 2013. Chris Christie is originally from Newark, New York and received his degree from the University of Delaware and his Juris Doctor degree from Seton Hall University school of law.

After college Christie became a lawyer and joined the law firm Dughi, Hewit & Palatucci of Cranford, New Jersey and this is was the start for Christie’s political career. Christie’s first encounter with politics occurred when he volunteered for George H.W. Bush’s re-election campaign in New Jersey. After being apart of the campaign in 1993, Christie decided to run against New Jersey Senate Majority Leader, John H. Dorsey but that run ended shortly when Dorsey challenged the validity of Christie’s petition to appear on the ballot. In 1994, Christie finally got is political career going when he was elected as a Republican to the Board of Chosen Freeholders for Morris County, New Jersey. One year later in 1995, Christie ran for a seat in the New Jersey General Assembly along with attorney Rick Merkt but the duo lost to Anthony Bucco and Michael Patrick. After the loss, unhappy Republicans recruited republican John Murphy to run against Christie and ultimately Murphy defeated Christie and he was not re-elected to the freeholder board.

After the defeat, Christie returned all of his attention back to his law firm. Christie’s firm later opened up an office in the state capital of New Jersey and it was mainly devoted to lobbying. During 1999 to 2001, Christie’s firm represented GPU Energy, the Securities Industry Association, Hackensack University Medical Center, and University of Phoenix. During the 2000 presidential election, Christie served as the campaign lawyer for George W. Bush. After President Bush won the election, he appointed Christie the U.S. Attorney for the District of New Jersey on December 7th, 2001. Christie served this position up until December 1st, 2008.  On January 8th, 2009 Christie declared to run for the office of Governor and ultimately won the election on November 3rd, 2009.

The campaign slogan for Chris Christie’s presidential campaign is “Telling it like it is”. To understand the main idea of his campaign, which is having a president in office that is a strong law enforcer. He believes the lack of enforcement by President Obama has caused crime to increase, drugs to become more available, and Isis to become stronger. Understanding his past as a lawyer and as a U.S. Attorney for New Jersey, it makes sense for his campaign to be centered on enforcing the laws in America to keep Americans safe. The campaign also takes a swing at Hillary Clinton and her email scandal going on trying to not portray her as an honest person nor a law-abiding citizen. Chris Christie has been a law enforcer his entire life and he would continue to do so as president.
